Brogan visit is a win for Listowel

A DECISION by Listowel Traders to invite star Dublin footballer Bernard Brogan to switch on the town's Christmas lights this weekend has resulted in a major publicity coup locals could never have dreamt of.
The fact that some Kerry supporters were a tad upset that 'a Dub' was chosen ahead of our own footballers to do the honours has led to unprecedented publicity for Friday night's festive switch-on in Listowel – and the locals love it.
Mayor of Listowel Jimmy Moloney said the backlash over Brogan's visit has been blown out of all proportion and scoffed that a national newspaper asked him this week what security measures would be in place for his arrival. While there may be a handful of Kerry football fans who won't be lining out to see the man who deprived Kerry of a place in this year's All-Ireland final, the reality is that the only security required will be manpower to keep the ladies at bay.
