THE Palliative Care Unit at Kerry General Hospital has been presented with a whopping €10,000 thanks to the fundraising efforts of Tralee couple Thomas Chawke and Lorraine McElligott, along with a group of friends and family.
The money was raised during a two day charity event being at O'Riada's Bar, Ballymacelligott last March - which combined motorbikes, horses and razor blades!
The fundraiser kicked off with a motorbike ' poker run' across north Kerry, followed that evening by a fund-raising shave and waxing event at the bar. A highlight of the event was the sight of Blennerville man John Kerins shaving his beard for the first time in over 35 years.
Day two saw the North Kerry Harriers Club lead a horseback hunt from O'Riada's, where novice, junior and experienced riders came together to support the cause.
On Friday night, Thomas and Lorraine joined with family, friends and participants of the fundraiser at O'Riada's to present the proceeds to Ted Moynihan of the Kerry Hospice Foundation. Last year, a similar two day event raised an incredible €18,000 for the charity.
