TARBERT Comprehensive's very own Irish international rugby player - upcoming talent Ben Betts - was the appropriate go-to-man for launching a week of events at the school celebrating physical and mental health.
Ben, who is garnering massive plaudits at present as he rises through the Munster and International ranks at under-18 level officiated at the opening of the first big event of the week - 'Move it Monday', which saw the whole school donning runners and taking part in a 500-metre walk to get the metabolism going.
"Healthy Eating and Exercise go Hand-in-Hand for a Healthy Lifestyle', that was the theme of our week," teacher Jeanelle Griffin told The Kerryman.
"The home economics department also put on a fantastic display of healthy breakfasts, nutritious lunches, snacks and smoothies for Tasty Tuesday and on Water Wednesday we had everyone in the school drink eight glasses of water over the day," Jeanelle said. Three-Times Thursday was next to arise on the weekly schedule, asking everyone to walk, skip and shoot baskets and to take three penalties.
"Fruity Friday brought the week to a close with all of us wearing tracksuits and free fruit distributed," Jeanelle added.
Meanwhile, the Parents' Council brought nutritional therapist Maxine Browne to facilitate healthy-eating workshops in another of the week's great lessons in better living.
