TWO buildings in Ballybunion to have seen better days are being restored by local Tidy Towns volunteers for the benefit of the entire community.
Brosnan's Old Bakery in the East End and Maudie's Sweet Shop on the Doon Road are being restored to a new glory thanks to the hard work of local volunteers currently cleaning and painting them.
The twin project has been a dream of the group for many years as the decrepit appearance of both buildings affected the overall look of the lovely seaside town.
It's expected the work will also benefit the famous resort's efforts in next year's national Tidy Towns competition. But more than that' it marks a community bringing life back to once important businesses.
"Maudie's and the Old Bakery were very important buildings once upon a time but sadly became a bit of an eyesore in recent years," Tidy Towns Chairperson Fiona O'Callaghan said.
"We got premission from the owners of the Old Bakery to start working on it, and we began the project back in March. It's nearly there now and we're getting on with Maudie's as well. Maudie's was a great favourite of the town and we're really doing it in her memory!" Fiona said.
