Ballyheigue shop closes

THERE was sadness in Ballyheigue this week as one of the village's bestloved shops closed after 30 years' serving the local community.

Healy's Costcutter grocery and newsagents closed earlier this week. At the height of the summer season in Ballyheigue over the years it was one of the busiest establishments in the village, serving the increased population at its location overlooking the promenade.

The Kerryman was unable to contact owner John Healy, and the Barry Group - which owns the Costcutter franchise - declined to comment as they said Mr Healy was the sole owner of the business.
