AUTHOR and award-winning journalist Leanne Waters will share her personal battle with bulimia nervosa and her experience of severe bullying as a child at a free public talk in the Malton Hotel, Killarney, next Monday, November 12, at 7.30pm.
Leanne's talk is the first in a free series of public seminars organised by Be Aware Prevent Suicide in the Malton Hotel in November. Her book, My Secret Life: A Memoir of Bulimia is a bestseller. She is currently studying in UCD and is in the process of publishing her first novel.
The seminar will also feature Jacklyn McCarthy, a UCC Masters graduate working as a research Officer with the National Suicide Research Foundation and as education coordinator with Jigsaw Kerry.
Jacklyn will speak on trends in self-harm and suicide among young people in Ireland. She will refer to The Saving and Empowering Young Lives in Europe (SEYLE) study and the The Mind Yourself Programme, which focuses on hope and optimism and is solution-focussed.
The free November talks will continue on the following two Mondays at 7.30pm.
