THE most expensive property sold in the north and west Kerry region in the last two years was an apartment in a Dingle development.
An apartment in the Water's Edge House development in The Wood, Dingle, sold for €650,000 according to the register of residential property prices released to massive interest this week. The property was sold on August 12, 2010.
Dingle real estate fetched the highest prices of the region - excluding Tralee - since January 1; the beginning of the period covered by the new index of prices.
A house in Ballygrennan, Listowel, made the most of any residential property in the north Kerry area fetching €344,400 on July 13 of this year.
The register shows that the dearest property sold in north Kerry was in the Slí na Faiche estate of Lixnaw - selling for €950,000 on May 27 of last year.
However, this is likely a typographical error as the price far exceeds any reasonable expectation for the relatively modest houses of the estate.
The vast bulk of the dearest properties on the list in Kerry are to be found in the south of the county in areas of scenic beauty.
A comparison of the most expensive properties in north and west Kerry shows a more subdued performance on the market.
A house in the Fearann Geal estate in Dingle was the dearest following the Water's Edge apartment. The house made €504,445 on May 8 of this year.
It is followed by a house at Ballymacadoyle in Burnham, Dingle, which sold for €380,000 on February 16 of this year; a home in Ballynaraha North, Dunquin, fetching €371,370 on April 28 of last year; the Ballygrennan property in Listowel already mentioned; another Water's Edge apartment in Dingle, which sold for €340,000 on June 15 last; a property in Tarmons West, Moyvane, which made €335,459 on May 7 of 2010; a Ballybunion property at Doon East which sold for €335,000 on April 12 of 2010 and a property in the Lighthouse Village in Fenit which made €330,000 on April 30 of 2010.
Meanwhile, the register shows that 119 houses were sold in Listowel in the period, with the second, third and fourth dearest in the Kenny Heights estate. The Kenny Heights homes sold for €290,000, €280,000 and €275,000 with the first two sold in March of last year and the third sold on May 20 of last year.
27 houses sold for over €200,000 in the town since the start of 2010 and 16 homes in Listowel sold for €50,000 and under during the period.
22 homes in Dingle sold for over €200,000, with only two selling for €50,000 and less.
