THE biggest annual fundraising event in Tralee's biggest parish raised more than €40,000 over the course of the weekend.

St John's Parish bazaar attracted hundreds of people to the KDYS Hall on Denny Street to take part in the event which kicked off on Friday evening and drew to a close on Sunday evening.

The annual bazaar is always a highlight of Tralee's festive calendar and as ever a whole range of raffles and auctions were held over the weekend with everything from electrical appliances to hampers filled to bursting with Christmas goodies going under the hammer.

All the goods were donated or made by parishioners and local businesses.

While the final tally won't be known until at least January the organisers believe over €40,000 was raised at the event and this money will be used to cover parish costs and maintain its three churches and parish halls over the coming year. Committee member Margaret Crean said the bazaar had been a huge us success and thanked the people of Tralee for their generosity.
