FOSSA National School has recently undergone a major transformation with an impressive new astroturf facility and a modern new autism unit, yet the hard-working parents' association won't stop there.
Next on the agenda is a new school library and a to help make this a reality a 10k run through the national park will be held this Saturday, April 12, to help raise the cash needed.
The run is for everyone from serious athletes to novices, with the option of a less intensive 5k family walk or run on the day which starts just a few minutes after the 10k run. Starting from Knockreer House at 11am, registration is at The Old Monastery from 9.30 a.m. - 10.30 a.m. and prizes will be given for the top three finishers.
Fossa NS Parents' Association Chairperson Fiona Collins says the event has the dual purpose of promoting health and fitness as well as raising funds to build and refurbish the new school library.
"This is the first event of its kind run by the school, so we're looking forward to the day and because it's an Easter theme and the children can look out for the Easter bunny along the way," she said.
Organised in association with O'Sullivan Cycles and High5 Sports Nutrition, entry for the 10k run is €20 including precision chip timing and a goodie bag worth €20 for the first 400 entrants. Entry for the 5k option is €5 individually or €15 for families. There will be refreshments afterwards and a special Easter raffle draw. Registration is available at www.precisiontiming.net.
