THIS year's Rose of Tralee has been hailed as a huge success with close to 100,000 people visiting the town over the last week, pumping some €6 million into the local economy.

While numbers were down on last year's festival local businesses, especially pubs, hotels and taxi drivers, said they were generally pleased with the event.

The largest single event was Saturday night's Rose parade and fashion show, which brought 30,000 people onto the streets. Pubs reported steady trade all weekend with Saturday night by far the busiest of the festival.

Gardaí reported a peaceful festival with only a small number of arrests, most for minor public order offences, reported over the course of the weekend.
