€10,000 boost for community centre

THE Listowel Community Centre received a welcome boost on Tuesday when it was awarded €10,000 from the Coca-Cola 'Thank You Fund'. The funding comes in support of the centre's new project that aims to enhance mental resilience through lifestyle coaching in Kerry secondary schools.

The project, which focuses on transition year students in 10 schools across the county over 10 weeks, is one of 11 non-profit organisations to benefit from the fund in both Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Aiming to permanently effect healthy and active lifestyle practices among the young people, Listowel Community Centre was chosen as one of the successful projects following a public vote, which accounted for 50 per cent of the final score, with a judging panel making up the other half.

Listowel Community Centre was announced as one of the winners at an event at the National Sports Campus, which was attended by Michael Ring, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport.

The annual Coca-Cola 'Thank You Fund' shares the €125,000 fund among 11 non-profit organisations both north and south of the border that promote healthy and active living.
