THEY might have been googly-eyed by the end of it, but they were at least able to take heart from having raised no less than €1,000!
Members of the Listowel Youth Club stayed awake for an entire night recently in a fundraiser for a charity they have a deep regard for – the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service.
Not going to bed at all is something that probably comes naturally to most teens, in fairness, but the fundraising they did in conjunction with it is an example to everyone.
The proceeds were presented to the KDYS at St Michael's College last week in a gesture the service was incredibly grateful for.
The Youth Club members carried out the fundraiser when they stayed awake – under the supervision of KDYS volunteers – at the Carnegie Hall with plenty of games and activities to help them make it through the night.
"This is an incredibly generous donation from the youth club," said youth worker with the KDYS Gareth Harteveld.
"It is particularly specials as it involves young people fundraising to support young people. Each year the KDYS supports over 50 youth clubs and seven youth cafés in the diocese and its donations like this that allow us to meet the support needs of young people, youth clubs and youth cafes around the county."
