THE parish of Listowel is celebrating its very own Gathering this year in the guise of the town's first Redemptorist Mission in nearly a decade - to which all in north Kerry are invited.
New Bishop of Kerry Ray Browne will be paying a special visit to Listowel on the last day of the Mission as the parish prepares for a massive influx of worshippers from all over the region.
Listowel Parish Priest, Canon Declan O'Connor, hopes the Mission will provide people with encouragement to reflect and take a greater perspective on things in these uncertain times.
"We are living in difficult times when many are struggling. People are struggling economically, with their faith and with the meaning of life in many ways. Many are confused and searching, but we all have an anchor to lean on. Christ set out to be a model for each of us, to show us how to live and to love. He is journeying with us. We could all do with a lift in these times," Canon O'Connor said.
The Mission. which started last Saturday, is being conducted by the Limerick-based Redemptorist team of Fr Seamus Enright, Fr Derek Meskell and Niamh O'Neill. It continues until next Friday, October 20.
"Listowel Parish Mission is a celebration of gathering in faith as a community," Canon O'Connor added.
