TENNIS Marathon: The Tennis Marathon took place on Friday June 21st 2013. All four courts were played on constantly from 9am to 9pm.
It was great to see all of our members getting involved, both young and old, by playing in varying conditions throughout the day. We would like to thank all the members who helped with organising and running the event whether it was barbequing, making the teas, supplying the treats and so on. The day was a huge success and we will let you know the final amount rose next week.
Wednesday Club Night BBQ June 26th
The social committee are going to be holding a BBQ on one club night each month over the summer. The first BBQ is taking place this week on June 26th. The BBQ is for all members so if you can't make it in time to play in the club night please join us at around 9pm to enjoy the BBQ, a glass of wine and some craic. If playing in club night the usual €5 charge includes the BBQ, €3 for members not playing in club night. This can be a great chance for our newer members to get know our existing members so we encourage you all to come along and enjoy the night!
Junior Inter County MatchPlay
On Saturday June 22nd Tralee juniors welcomed Killarney Tennis Club for a friendly inter county match play competition for u14's and u16's. The unfavourable conditions of strong winds and the odd shower did not dampen the eager players from both sides who got on court and played competitively. Overall it was a great experience for all involved and it is hoped that the juniors all benefited from participating.
We would like to thank David Butler of Killarney Tennis club and his junior team for travelling to Tralee and making it an enjoyable day. We would also like to thank all the parents of the Tralee players who made our visitors very welcome with their lovely food and sweet treats throughout the day and for supporting all the players. Also a big thanks to men's club captain George Philips who was down on his birthday to wish all the Tralee teams the best of luck.
The Tralee team were as follows U14's Evelyn Hayes, Sarah Hoare, Ruth O' Connell, Ben Kavanagh, Hugh Healy & Richard O'Shea. U16's Lucy Fitzgerald, Molly O' Carroll, Jenny Fitzgerald, Sam Boyle, Louis Ryle, Con Gill. We would also like to thank our Tralee junior member Brian Fox, who at short notice kindly played for Killarney as they had a late cancellation. It is our intention to make this sort of match a more regular event in the coming season/near future. Killarney will host a Tralee team at a later date and we have also linked with Castleisland Tennis Club about organising a similar friendly so keep an eye out.
Junior Munster Summer Cup
We are looking at entering an u18's team into the Munster Tennis Junior Cup. Are you 15-18 years old? If you are interested in playing please email email@example.com with your name, contact number and date of birth by Thursday June 27th. Please note we would need a minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls so that we can have a panel of players to make sure we can fulfil fixtures.
Dream Team Competition and Wimbledon Men's Final Day
By now you should all know who your 'Dream Team' players are, so we hope you're keeping an eye on the Wimbledon play to see how your team is getting on. The social committee will be giving a mid-competition breakdown so you can see how your team is fairing. The result of this competition will be known on the Men's Final day so we are asking you to keep this date free as we will be running a social event in the club house and on the courts to celebrate the end of the Wimbledon competition. More information on this next week.
Enjoy Watching Some Wimbledon in Clubhouse
As you all know we had a pub quiz last month to raise funds to purchase a TV for the clubhouse which is now in place upstairs. We would like to invite our members to use the television over the next two weeks to watch some play from Wimbledon when you're down in the clubhouse. So if you arrive a little early for your game or you have some time when you finish why not pop upstairs and turn on the TV and enjoy some tennis on BBC.
Senior Summer Cup Results The grade 6 ladies team played their quarter final match on Saturday June 22nd in Carrigaline. The team put in a great performance on the day with three of the four matches going to three sets but unfortunately is was not enough to overcome their strong opposition. Well done to the team of Pam Bailley, Triona Daly, Mags O Grady and Siobhan O Nuallain for giving it their best. The grade 5 mixed team got a walk over in their first match against Rushbrooke this weekend so we wish them the best of luck in the next round of the competition.
