NOT even the torrential rain of Sunday could douse the Christmas spirit in Listowel as townspeople did all they could to ignore it and hold a wonderful Christmas parade.

Apart from the duration of one particularly heavy downpour, the Christmas parade went ahead as planned, bringing scores together in the centre of town for one of the main events of the Listowel Christmas Festival.

"We were delighted with the turnout, despite the very bad weather," Traders' Association organiser Jennifer Scanlon told The Kerryman.

"It went very well and people managed to enjoy themselves between the showers," she added. Next up as part of the fantastic Christmas Festival programme is the Christmas fireworks display in the Square taking place at 5pm on Saturday, December 22.

"We hope the weather is going to be kinder as we're keen for everyone to get down to the Square for what promises to be a stunning display of fireworks to usher in Christmas week in Listowel," Jennifer added.
