TIDY TOWNS RESULTS: Templeglantine once again scored very well in this year's Tidy Towns Competition, the results of which were announced last week. The mark obtained was 280, an increase of two points over the previous year.
The death occurred on Friday , September 7th in Tralee hospital of Larry Curtin of Tarbert and formerly of Glenshesk, Templeglantine. He was aged 82 and was the last surviving member of the family born to Michael Curtin and Ellen Scanlon, Glenshesk. Larry is survived by his wife Mary, four daughters and one son. The wedding took place on Saturday, September 8th in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Templeglantine between Sarah Mulcahy, Meenoline South and Neil Keegan, Sandyford, Dublin. The celebrant at the mass and marriage ceremony was Fr Tom Hurley. The wedding reception was held afterwards in the Dunraven Arms Hotel, Adare. Sarah is daughter of Patsy and Anjo Mulcahy, Meenoline and Neil is son of Michael and Miriam Keegan, Sandyford. The new season of traditional music classes got underway on Monday evening last at the local Scoil Naisiúnta when the new crop of beginners on all instruments had their first lesson. All other experienced pupils who have enrolled will join them on Monday next. Information regards arrangements and times were given out at enrolling last week. Anybody interested in traditional singing classes should hand in their name at music classes on Monday next or contact 069 84039. If there are sufficient numbers the singing classes will resume in the near future. The Comhaltas step dancing and céilí dancing classes are now underway. The Comhaltas Tour of Ireland Concert 2012 will have Raheenagh as one of it's venues where it will be hosted by the Cluain Chréadhail Comhaltas craobh on Sunday, October 21st. BEST OF THE WEST CONCERT A traditional concert of music, song, dance and story from the cream of West Limerick talent will be staged at Halla Tadhg Gaelach, Tournafulla on Friday October 12th. It is a fund raising event in aid of West Limerick Radio 102FM. The Teampall an Ghleanntáin Comhaltas Senior Ceilí Band will be among the many performers on stage on the night. Admission is by ticket only and tickets can be got from Ann Lyons, The Square, Abbeyfeale of by contacting the radio station at 069 66200.
NATIONAL TRAILS DAY
National Trails Day will take place on Sunday, October 7 and to coincide with this a walk/cycle has been organised for the Great Southern Trail starting in Newcastle West and finishing in Rathkeale. Beidh fáilte roimh gach éinne ar an siulóid.
Kerry Choral Union will present "An Autumn Musical Evening" at Halla Tadhg Gaelach Tournafulla on Friday, October 5th at 8.00pm. All proceeds will go towards church funds and Tournafulla Development Association. Cead Isteach €10.
LIGHTING AND SOUND WORKSHOPS
As part of the West Limerick Drama initiative lighting and sound workshops will take place shortly in the Glorach Theatre Abbeyfeale. A full day lighting for stage workshop takes place on Saturday September 29th followed by a full day sound workshop on October 6th.
