THEY say whiskey is distilled sunshine and lovers of the drink got a chance to sample some fine and rare examples of the spirit at a specially organised tasting session in Tralee on Friday evening.

The event took place at Baily's Corner bar in Tralee thanks to publican Garry O'Donnell who had invited Ardfert man and renowned whiskey connoisseur Michael Lawlor to town to host a tasting session for a group of around 30 invited guests.

Mr Lawlor, who runs the famous Celtic Whiskey shop in Dublin, brought a selection of rare whiskey for guests to sample and as well as talking the guests through the unique qualities of each, he delivered a fascinating lecture on whiskey distilling techniques and the rich history of the drink.
