ON Friday, May 10, the popular RTE cookery programme 'The Restaurant' will take on a Kerry 'flavour' with the hosting in the River Island Hotel here in Castleisland of a 'Mystery Celebrity Chef Night' hosted by East Kerry Reaching Out.

What promises to be a glittering affair is being organised as a fundraiser for this year's East Kerry Roots Festival and Brosnan Clan Gathering from July 25 to July 28.

"The 'chef night' event will be jointly presented by Irish Rugby International, Mick Galwey and Radio Kerry's Deirdre Walsh and will keep everyone guessing as to the chefs' identities with some cryptic clues and heavily veiled hints. Diners will be welcomed with a champagne reception commencing at 7.30pm. During the reception entertainment will be provided by local traditional musicians. This will be followed by a sumptuous meal prepared by three celebrity chefs, under the watchful eye of Head Chef David," according to event spokesperson, Marie O'Sullivan.

"Unlike its television counterpart, the judges will not be renowned food critics. Instead the adjudicators on the night will be the diners, who will have the opportunity to vote on each of the three courses once they have been served and eaten.

The adjudication process at each table, will no doubt give rise to much good-humoured debate, which will add to the merriment of the night.

Diners will also be able to 'guess the chef' and, for a fee, will be encouraged to write a short good-natured review of the meal," said Ms. O'Sullivan.

Prizes will be awarded for a correct guess and the most apt review. The celebrity chefs will be introduced at the end of the meal, when the overall winner will be announced and presented with an award, the nature of which will not be revealed until the night.

Should anyone wish to 'trip the light fantastic' the evening will continue with music with Des Kelly.

"This promises to be a not-to-be-missed night-out, so come along enjoy good food, fun and frolics with family, friends or colleagues. Tickets (€40) can be booked now by calling: Geraldine or Jennifer on 087 1813879 or by contacting the River Island Hotel on 066 71 42555," Marie concluded.
