Santa brushing up on Irish for Christmas in The Colony

Published 14/11/2012 | 11:29

A FORMER fisherman's house in The Colony in Dingle will become Santa's House every Saturday in the run up to the festive season and there's a special invitation for children to call in.

The idea is the brainchild of Christy Quill of Strand House, who says Santa has been taking Irish classes in Lapland in preparation for his Dingle sojourn, giving children from Irish speaking families the opportunity to converse with Daidi na Nollag 'as Gaeilge' every Saturday from December 1 - 22.

A competition is also underway which invites children to write their own letter to Santa. From the letters received, one boy and one girl will be selected as special guests of honour who will welcome Santa when he arrives at his new home in The Colony at 9.30am on December 1.

"The draw will take place on Saturday November 24 and the winners will be informed that evening so please include your name, age and contact number in your letter," said Christy. Letters to Santa can be dropped into Strand House or posted to Strand House, Dingle.
