SEASONED and novice cyclists are being invited to take part in the annual Glin Charity Cycle, which takes place in the west Limerick village next Saturday, August 17.
Now in its third year, the event is once again being organised to raise funds for the Mid Western Cancer Foundation and the local GAA club, with two routes being set up to accommodate all levels of cyclist.
Starting off in Glin at 10am, the cycle travels through Athea, Abbeyfeale, Ashford, Broadford, Dromcollagher, Newcastle West, Ardagh, Shanagolden, Foynes and Loughill, before finishing up back in Glin. While the route is a challenging one, with some tough hills, participants will be split into two groups. The first will comprise the more seasoned cyclists, who will have just the one stop in Newcastle West. The second group, however, will take a more leisurely approach, stopping along the route to regroup for a bite to eat and a quick refresh of the legs, with the main stop in Newcastle west for a cup of tea and a sandwich.
Registration for the event begins in The Square at 8.30am and sponsorship cards are available from members of Glin GAA or in local businesses. Afterwards there will be food and music in Barrett's Bar.
