A ROBOT and a man in a hot-air balloon was the colourful scene from the hand of young Kilmoyley lad Robert Monahan that saw him chosen as a regional winner in the prestigious Doodle 4 Google competition this week.
A rare art talent, Robert's work has already brought a few prizes his way, but few compared with his trip to Google's European HQ in Dublin. "It was really cool going up to Google and seeing Google written on the wall, I really enjoyed it," said Robert, who is a pupil at Scoil Naomh Eirc in Kilmoyley.
"My picture was of a robot and a man in a hot-air balloon, it was all about building a robot," he added.
Robert (8) is a son of Mary and Ray Monahan and is happy to report that his teacher in second class, Ms McKenna, does art regularly with all in the class.
But he got a pretty nifty lesson in doodling too while at Google HQ, where official Google Doodler Kevin Laughlin travelled in from California to present prizes and give a special art class to all the winners.
Robert received a framed copy of his doodle from Head of Google in Ireland, John Herlihy as part of his big day in the Big Smoke.
