THE reds were out in force in Dingle on Sunday December 23 as young and old donned their Daidí na Nollag outfits to take part in the Santa 5km Fun Run and Walk which was hosted in aid of Cumann Ramhaíochta Chorca Dhuibhne and Cumann Rothaíochta Chorca Dhuibhne.
Despite hail showers and the odd crack of thunder the Santas began to gather at Dingle Marina at around 2 p.m. and to any onlookers it made some sight. There were a large variety of Santas present on the day - ranging in ages and abilities - but everyone put their best foot forward as MC Risteard Mac Liam put them under starters' orders.
Some, such as local Iron Man competitor Jason Courtney and members of West Kerry Fitness, took the 5km in their stride, while others, such as sexagenarian Margaret Holderied from the Last Cottage took their time in completing the course which took in Dingle Town and a round of the Marina.
There was a great atmosphere at the event, which was hosted in aid of two great local sporting organisations and indeed members of each club, including champion rowers, the Griffins of Maharees and Dingle GAA Chairman Mícheál Ó Conchúir (also of the Dingle Cycling Club), lent their support in spades to this recently established Dingle Christmas tradition.
