THE RAILWAY Bar, Abbeyfeale will be buzzing when they host a fundraiser for the Bee For Battens/ Liam's Lodge foundation on October 18 to help the children's charity set up by Castlemaine man Tony Heffernan whose family has suffered cruelly because of Batten's Disease.
Two of Tony's children, Saoirse and Liam, were victims of the the neuro-degenerative condition that affects babies and young children. Tragically, Saoirse died almost two years ago at the age of five, while little Liam continues to battle bravely against the disease.
Tony set up 'Bee For Battens' to raise awareness and gather support for those affected by Battens Disease and his campaign has struck a chord right across the country.
Among the many supporters are Kadie Colbert and Shane O'Connor of FealeFit who have joined up with local man Paschal Keane for a big fundraiser for the charity.
They have already raised thousands for the foundation but "this is our last big fundraiser of the year and we want to raise as much as we possibly can" said Kadie.
After Paschal joined FealeFit, having lost weight and improved and his fitness, he decided he wanted to put his new fitness to good use and raise money for a charity. 'Bee For Battens' was his choice and he asked Kadie and Shane to come on board fundraising during the year with him.
The fundraiser they have organised for October 18 goes under the title of 'Dance at the Railway with Michael Collins' and it is set be great night full of food, singing, dancing and raffles, beginning at 9.30pm.
Money raised on the night will be donated to 'Liam's Lodge', a campaign to raise funds so families who care for children suffering from a range of conditions from debilitating disorders to life limiting conditions, can receive respite assistance.
"All of this is for Liam, who suffers with the disease, and we want to do as much as we can for him and the Heffernan family", said Kadie.
Kadie, Shane and Paschal also organised two fundraisers during the summer, 'Man Vs Food' and 'Feale Fit Hike and Bike Challenge', which helped raised money and awareness for the charity.
If you would like to join in the fun with Michael Collins and his band on October 18, tickets are €10 and are available from Kadie on 087 7771552.
