ABBEYFEALE people don't do things by halves and this has been well demonstrated during the year of The Gathering. The town is hosting its second Gathering to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the film 'Back Home' made for a local youth project involving over 200 people from the Abbeyfeale community.
Organised by 'The Abbeyfeale Arts Assembly', the Back Home gathering will run from October 17 to 20.
The Arts Assembly is inviting people to return from the four corners of the world to watch the film and meet up once again for a reunion on Saturday October 19. The film will be shown at 8pm in the Winners Circle Bar on Bridge Street.
Before that there will be two days of events, commencing with an art and crafts exhibition on Thursday 17th and a food and craft fair on Friday morning.
Friday evening sees local artists performing jazz, gospel, bluegrass and ragtime in the local theatre, as well many other events throughout the four days.
To raise money for this event, an afternoon tea dance has been organised for Sunday, October 13 from 3pm to 6pm in Fr Casey's Clubhouse where Seamus Sheehy and his band will entertain the dancers. Admission is €5.
The Back Home gathering will come to a close on Sunday evening at 7.30pm in Fr Casey's Clubhouse with a night of poetry, comedy, prose and drama.
