The Termonfeckin woman was the victim of car crime last April when her beloved Toyota Yaris was stolen from outside her house and found smashed into a tree the next morning.

But the world sometimes has a funny way of paying you back, and Lorraine was one of the lucky winners of a brand new Ford Fiesta in the Gary Kelly Centre's Monster Car Draw last week.

'I still can't believe it, and it really couldn't happen at a better time because the insurance still hadn't paid for my other car which was a write-off,' she told the Drogheda Independent. 'It is great to get a bit of good news at last, and I was so nervous picking up the new car with my dad last week, as it is so new!'

Lorraine, who lives in Gort Uaine, Clogherhead, had parked her car in her driveway as usual last April 5, but got 'the fright of her life' when it had vanished next morning.

'I just panicked when I saw it was gone and called my dad,' recalled the former nurse, who is now studying social care.

'It was found a few hours later at Oriel Cove, smashed, with the two airbags deployed, and the gardaí said it was probably someone just joyriding and crashing it for the craic.'

She describes her win as 'fantastic news' as she is never lucky.

'My old car wasn't fancy or anything but I was devastated when it was stolen, but now I have this wonderful new car, so that will be double locked and it has an immobiliser,' she said with a smile.

'It was my mum who bought the ticket for me, so I have to thank her too, and whoever up there made me win it!'

Lorraine was one of two lucky winners presented with a new Ford Fiesta last week at N. Smith & Son's Ford garage by owner Nicky Smith and Paddy Dwyer.

Bronagh Lane (11) from Slane also attended with her parents and there were three big cash winners: Mary Durnin Ard Ri, Beamore Road, Drogheda Louth (€1,000); Victoria Adeeb, Kilbreans Crescent, Dunboyne, Meath (€650); and Declan Harte, Kennedy Crescent, Navan, Meath (€250).
