BALLYARD man Liam O'Connor is heading to New York City to run their 2013 marathon in aid of the Irish Cancer Society on November 3.
Liam is no stranger to raising money for this charity.
He has completed several marathons and even walked from Tralee to Dublin before running the Dublin Marathon in 2008.
It's also a cause close to Liam's heart.
"Cancer affects a lot of people, about one in three. I lost a good friend, Padraig Halpin, to it in 2006 and later an uncle," said Liam.
Since he came back from Colombia in June, Liam started training for the 26.2 mile marathon.
He runs four times a week by the canal walk in Tralee, taking in the Marina Apartments, Blennerville and the Wetlands Centre. Every time he trains, he hopes his time improves.
Liam won't be alone on his run, his friend from Donegal will be there to support and encourage him.
Both of them will take a trial run together in October.
"I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be a great chance for my friend and I to catch up with one another while running for a worthy cause" added Liam.
Liam will be collecting money and looking for sponsorship in Dingle on August 23, Fenit on the 24th, Killarney on the 25th, Tralee on the 30th and Listowel on August 31.
