Knocknagoshel punters were a happy lot at the opening day on Sunday last of the Listowel Racing Festival. It was thanks to Johnny Byrne's horse On the Road to Abbeyfeale winning the opening race. The Coolenaleig owner and his backroom team had Road To Abbeyfeale in prime order for the Island course and the win could well be a forerunner of many more such successes. Listowel races have down through the years been local punters favourite course and in days gone by the schools of the parish closed for the races .
Congratulations to all locals involved in the Tidy Towns Competition who by their endeavours extra marks were gained by Knocknagoshel in 2012. With a little more cooperation in certain quarters the summit can be reached in years to come.
NICK COTTER'S KENNELS
A refurbishing job done to his Kennels in the recent past is the reason many claim the Knockbrack man Nick Cotter has had such success with his greyhounds. Tralee, Cork, and Limerick tracks have all in their turn proved happy hunting grounds for Nick.
NORTH KERRY CHAMPIONSHIP
Knocknagoshel will play Ballyduff in the first round of the North Kerry Senior Championship. Which will commence in October? A big loss through injury to the Mall will be Padraig Reidy. The former Kerry minor suffered a serious leg injury early this year which has spoiled his chance with the Kerry Juniors and also with St Kierans.
The local district side St Kierans should record another win in the county senior football championship this coming weekend. Martin Horgan as trainer has the side well up for task on hand.
