The late Margaret (Rita) Lock
1932-2012 MARGARET (Rita) Lock (nee O'Sullivan), Woodlands, Oakpark, Tralee and formerly of Kilmoyley, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, in Kerry General Hospital.
Rita, a native of Kilmoyley, was born on May 20, 1932, to parents Patrick and Hannah O'Sullivan. She was one of 12 children in a family of eight girls and four boys.
Rita attended Kilmoyley National School but then, like many of her generation, she moved to England at a young age to find work. She worked hard but never forgot her family, always sending money back to her parents to help out at home.
It was while she was working in London that she met and married her husband, Cyril Lock.
Together they ran two businesses, a hairdressing salon and a confectionary/ tobacconist.
In 1985 Rita and Cyril decided to retire back to Ireland and lived in Woodlands, Oakpark, Tralee. Unfortunately, Cyril passed away only 12 months later in 1986.
Rita was an independent woman and lived on her on for many years. However, four years ago, her health took an unfortunate turn for the worse and she was no longer able to live on her own. It was at this time she moved to Cúil Didín Nursing home, where she resided until her death on Monday, September 3.
Rita was a keen gardener and spent many hours in her garden tending flowers and shrubs. She loved animals and always kept a dog for walks and for company. Rita was one of the most kindhearted and generous people you could meet. She always put other people's needs before her own. She was a gentle lady and loved a good chat and a laugh. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Rita's family would like to thank her neighbours in Woodlands especially Betty Hegarty and Joan Murphy for all the help they gave Rita through the years. The family would also like to thank Catriona and all the staff of Cúil Didín Nursing Home for the care and kindness they showed Rita while she resided there. A special thanks also to Fr. Tadhg Fitzgerald for celebrating Rita's funeral mass and for his support throughout the funeral.
The removal of Rita's remains took place on Tuesday, September 4 from the Gleasure Funeral Home to the Sacred Heart Church, Kilmoyley. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 12 noon, followed by interment in the Abbey New Cemetery, Ardfert.
Rita is survived by her brothers PJ and Eddie O'Sullivan, sisters Agnes and Joan, sisters-in-laws, brother-inlaw, nieces , nephews and extended family and friends.
