THE proprietor of a Kenmare music shop named as one of the Best Shops in Ireland has expressed his delight at receiving the accolade.
Soundz of Muzic on Henry Street, beat off stiff competition from hundreds of other much loved local shops all around the country to be chosen by the Irish Times newspaper and its readers as the best Music Shop in Ireland.
Speaking about winning the title, Kit Dunlop, proprietor, Soundz of Muzic, paid tribute to his staff.
"There are three of us working here – me, John Meskell and Nathan Bartlett. They are both brilliant staff, they know so much about music, and are so gracious, helpful and honest. I love the fact that the shop is seen as part of the local community and part of the local business fabric. I'm thrilled with this award," said Kit.
The campaign to identify The Best Shops in Ireland got under way during the summer months, with a team of secret shoppers visiting each of the 50 long list reader nominated shops around Ireland, taking into account a number of factors such as its place in the community, creative window displays, staff friendliness, excellence in customer service and interesting and unusual stock.
The initial long list of over 50 shops was narrowed down to the 12 that excelled across a dozen categories. Each of the 50 shops has been profiled in a series in The Irish Times' Saturday Magazine.
Orna Mulcahy, Managing Editor, The Irish Times and editor of the Weekend magazine commented: "It became clear from our readers' nominations that one of the main roles these local shops play is in bringing a sense of community to the local area."
