A FINE morning greeted the many who turned out in their droves to participate in a special fund-raising walk from Dingle to Annascaul last Sunday in aid of Friends of Leukaemia, the Children's Leukaemia Association and the Kerry-Cork Cancer Bus Link.
Beginning at the Dingle Bay Hotel the large group, which saw young and old put their best foot forward, set their sights on the Dingle Way out of town en route to Annascaul via Lispole.
Some chose to retire at Halla Lios Póil, with new walkers also joining the walk at this point as they set their sights on the final leg of the walk, which totalled 12.6 miles.
Endorsed by a galaxy of GAA stars, such as Seán Walsh, Ger O'Keeffe, Ger Power, Seán Ó Luing, Dara Ó Cinnéide and Marc Ó Sé, the walk was deemed a great success as the gang descended on Annascaul where a BBQ and reception awaited them at Hanafin's Bar.
According to organiser Jim McCarthy, the walk was a huge success.
"We were really taken back by the huge number of people that turned out on the day and we have raised a great amount for Friends of Leukaemia, the Children's Leukaemia Association and the Kerry-Cork Cancer Bus Link," he told The Kerryman, "the final tally will be announced once all the sponsorship is in."
"We had a bit of luck with the weather and there was a great atmosphere at Hanafin's afterwards. All in all we couldn't have asked for any better, with everyone doing their bit for a great cause. It was also great to see the amount of young people who took part."
"We want to thank all the volunteers and local community involved in staging the walk and of course all those involved."
Donations can also be made to a special account in the Bank of Ireland (Dingle); sortcode 90-57-07, account number: 11427691.
