Grandparents Day has become one of the highlights of Catholic Schools Week
Pupils and staff of Dromclough NS were delighted to host a large number of grandparents at the school last week, to celebrate the occasion.
The children held a prayer service and performed songs and poems.
The grandparents then visited the classrooms and chatted with pupils.
We heard stories of what their school days were like, how they travelled to school, First Holy Communion Day, etc.
There were also stories of chores they did on family farms, jobs which they worked as young adults and even wedding day photos.
Grandparents Day gives us the opportunity to meet.
Grandparents get the chance to see the school and understand what their grandchildren are referring to when chatting at home.
For some off them, it is a return to their alma mater and time to reminisce.
For all in Dromclough NS it is a privilege to have the opportunity to acknowledge the enormous contribution grandparents make.

All roads lead to the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium, Tralee, on this Friday night for Knocknagoshel folk in the fundraising drive to refurbish the old Forge at the top of the Village. This has to be one of the most historic sites not alone in Kerry but in all Ireland. It was from this Forge the Republican Blacksmith Volunteer Dan Murphy was taken on March 24 the 1923 and shot at Baranarig wood by Gaffney, Culihane , and Mc Auliffe of the Free State Army during the final days of the ill fated civil war of that nine month period. It was alleged that the tricker mine which had been laid and exploded at Baranarig wood some time previously causing the death of five Free State soldiers was prepared in Murphy's forge. The 90th anniversary of those turbulent times is just weeks away. When refurbished the Forge will be a fitting memorial to Dan Murphy's memory. Captain Coye Remembered For the past 90 years and iron cross marked the spot on the Corkline where Captain Pat Coye of the Free State Army was fatally wounded by Republicans in an ambush on January 27th 1923. The iron cross has been replaced by a fitting memorial to Captain Coye at the same spot.
The death occurred last week of Mary Keane nee Moloney, Derk, Knocknagoshel. Her remains were removed from Leahy's Funeral Home to St Mary's church and burial was in the New Cemetery, Knocknagoshel. Mary was a native of Clonakilty, County Cork. Sincere sympathy is extended to all her relatives and friends.
News has reached the district of the death in Ballina, Co Mayo of Jeremiah Tangney, late of Tooreenard, Knocknagoshel. Sympathy is extended to all his relatives and friends.
Local Knocknagoshel footballer James Walsh made his debut on the Kerry senior team on Sunday last at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney when the Kingdom went down heavily to Dublin. It looks like Kerry will have to improve their fitness and personnel if progress is to be made in 2013.
The upcoming Irish Cup meeting at Limerick Racecourse should see quite a number of Knocknagoshel coursing fans head down to the Limerick venue. To date no local greyhound has won the Irish Cup. Athletics Congratulations to veteran athlete Pat O'Connor Killmanihan on some recent noteworthy success in athletics notably in weigh throwing.
