Christmas morning's brief window of fine weather in the Castleisland area may have been out of kilter with the rest of the country.

But it was a big help in encouraging the crowd which turned up at An Riocht Athletic Club for the annual Christmas Day Charity Mile.

And it was well in step with the needs of a handful of local charitable organisations.

An Riocht issued the annual invitation to leisure walkers to join them for the event on Christmas morning from 10-30am to 12-30pm.

The beneficiaries from the morning's efforts are: Oilean Beo - St. John of God, Castleisland; GOAL Philippines Disaster Fund and a handful of local charities.

Though the numbers were as good and as generous as ever, the size of the donation has shrunk with the times we live in.

However, the organisers were delighted to offer a count of €2,800. They declared themselves well pleased with and thankful for their two-hour haul.

Presentation of the funds involved will take place over the coming weeks.
