THE good folk of Abbbeyfeale went roaring back to the 1920s in fine style as the Ploughman Bar hosted the novel theme night to raise funds for the Abbeyfeale Community Development Association (ACDA).
Up to 100 people turned up for the worthy fundraiser, most of whom were suitably dressed in the attire of the time, which added hugely to the effect.
Bar owner Steve Smith, who organised the unique event, wanted to do something different for his locals while supporting the local cause, and was very happy with the success of his Roaring 20s night when he spoke to The Kerryman this week.
"The locals really got behind the cause and we really had a great turnout and loads got dressed up and got into the spirit of things," Steve said. "When the local vintners got together to support the development association we all said we'd host a different event in our pubs and this is something I'd definitely do again."
Steve paid tribute to his good friend Joe McCarthy who went to great effort into transforming the bar for the occasion, and congratulated locals Bridget Lee and Steve Geoghegan who were deemed best dressed lady and gent on the night.
Meanwhile, the group will hold their Autumn meeting on Tuesday next, September 24 in the Search and Rescue centre at 6 30pm.
