LONG-awaited improvements on the Lyre Road leading to the Milltown waste transfer station are set to begin by the middle of the month.
A sum of €70,000 has been allocated by the Roads & Transportation Department and the money will be used to repair parts of the road which is located just off the N70 at Knockavota Cross.
A full upgrade, though, will not be carried out in the immediate future as the road is not included in the current 2013 to 2016 Restoration Improvement. However, Kerry County Council's Roads Department said it would be considered in the preparation of a future programme.
Works given the go-ahead include digging out and overlaying from the N70 crossroads continuing to Ashborough Lodge Nursing Home.
The roads department said the road was assessed in the context of repair and reinstatement following the upgrading of the public sewer.
