NEW moms in Listowel are getting dramatically faster at getting their babies around thanks to a new class at the town park which sees them pushing buggies while jogging!
North Kerry fitness motivator Maggie Large is the brains and limbs behind the new Buggy Fit fad catching on among new Listowel mothers.
Taking place in the town park at least once a week, it sees Maggie putting upwards of 20 moms through their paces while minding the kids at the same time.
"It's brilliant fun and I'm delighted with the response I'm getting!" Maggie said. "We've about 20 members at the moment and would love to see many more joining up. It's a great way to lose the weight and we begin with a warm-up by lightly jogging around the park while pushing the buggies. If we see a bench we do a few bench presses and the second part of the class involves weights, using dumbells and other equipment."
Apart from losing weight, Buggy Fit participants can expect to strengthen the 'muscles of motherhood'; increase strength and fitness levels; increase metabolism which helps lose more weight and improve sleep even if not much of that is taking place. It's also becoming a great place for moms to socialise with many of them now going for coffee together after the class.
Classes take place at noon on Thursdays and cost €3 per session. "It's not about making money for me at all but for motivating mothers to get fitter and healthier," Maggie explained. For more information contact Maggie on (087)9866533.
