We secured the loan of a Coastal Rowing Boat for the next few weeks - a big Thank You to the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation - and started the first of a series of training weekends on Saturday and Sunday last.
What a "pet" day Saturday was, calm seas, practically no wind and temperatures in the late teens, we launched the boat on schedule for 2pm and over 10 crews had their first real taste of rowing in Fenit, with a great turn out in the under- age age groups, with the youngest being 10 years old. The boat was in continuous use for the full afternoon, up to 18:30, and some crews with great potential were identified. especially the ladies under 18s! A special thank you to Brian and Liam for getting the boat, and to John Quilter, John Patton, Jacqui Browne, Denis Burns, Tony Stack and many others for being there all afternoon and helping in every way possible.
On Sunday, we had another great turnout, in spite of the chilly SE wind and a few on-shore waves. Again, some crews with great potential were identified and the ladies were to the fore yet again! The men will have their work cut out to keep up with the ladies, who are showing tremendous interest, not to mind energy and enthusiasm!
Communication will be improved upon as we get more and more details. A facebook page is being set up and an email address is up and running already - firstname.lastname@example.org and there is a dedicated mobile number - 086.4474444, so no excuses for not keeping in touch!
Next weekend, we will be running more trials and putting people into various teams, so if you are available, be sure to let us know through the above number and email address. We only have the boat for a few weeks, so make the most of it! Now is your chance!!
