THE Farmers' Market at Market Cross here in Castleisland was all a buzz last Thursday with the addition of up to 10 craft producers.
There were bee and poultry keeping demonstrations and the regular food and plant stalls.
Seven members of the ' Original Kerry' network as well as artists put on a fabulous display of local, handmade crafts with on the spot demonstrations of their workmanship in many cases.
"Special thanks is due to Billy O'Rourke and Sean Horgan of the Sliabh Luachra Beekeepers group who displayed all the tools of the trade and gave a short demonstration of what's involved in keeping bees," said market co-ordinator, Michael Gleeson.
Denis Flanigan, a regular at the Thursday market, also displayed his wide variety of fowl and was there to answer any questions.
"While the weather did not 'play ball' as usual, it was perhaps appropriate, since the poor summer has made life difficult for everyone producing from the land this year.
It didn't dampen spirits however and a good day was had by all," said Mr. Gleeson. For more information on Castleisland or any other Farmers' Market in the county go to www.kerryfarmersmarkets.com
