Better known as 'Gaffer', Jackie Sheehy hailed from Mitchels Square and also spent a number of years living in the Boherbee area.

As a young man he worked in the building trade but sadly he subsequently fell on hard times.

Wheelchair-bound for much of his later life, Jackie was a well known and regular fixture on the streets of Tralee until he left the town some five years ago.

On leaving Tralee Mr Sheehy moved to Kenmare where he was cared for in a nursing home for a number of years prior to his death on Tuesday July 15.

'Gaffer', who is fondly remembered by those who knew him well, was buried at Rath Cemetery on Friday afternoon following requiem mass at St John's Church. May he rest in peace.
