Fantastic 'Freaky Friday' with An Ríocht club

AN Ríocht Athletic Club hosted a Freaky Friday 5K Fun Run on October 26th and it proved to be a wonderful success.

More than 250 people took part in what turned out to be a marvellous spectacle.

Each runner was equipped with a head lamp to light their way. As part of the run was through an unlit stretch of the Black Road there were safety issues to be considered.

However, the route was well patrolled by volunteers to ensure the safety of all.

Many of the participants dressed up for the occasion which really added to the fun element of the event and there were some remarkable outfits and misfits on display.

For those taking part in the present round of the Couch to 5K this was their first opportunity to complete a 5K route.

The soup and crusty rolls, served afterwards in the clubhouse by a group of local witches, were very welcome on what was a very cold night.

The fun continued with a disco, refreshments and a prize giving ceremony and a good time was had by all.

Next up is the club's 'Run Rudolph Run' on Sunday morning of December 9th.

This is another 5K run being organised by the fitness and health mad club.

It has a start time of 11am with registration closing at the clubhouse at 10.15am on the day. Entry fee is €5 and there will be a race souvenir for all participants along with plenty of festive treats.

All the proceeds will go to the Paudie Fitzmaurice Memorial Fund. Further information can be had from An Riocht AC on 066 71 42199.
