'Evidence' drama in Dingle Courthouse

DINGLE's courthouse has often been the setting for legal drama but this week the drama will be of a different variety when a unique play is staged in the building.
This Friday November 9, Zyber Theatre Company will present 'The Evidence I Shall Give', a court-room drama written by Richard Johnson who served as a district court judge in Kerry in the mid 20th century.
When the play was first performed in 1961 it exposed the cruelty children endured in residential institutions. The story centres on the case of a young girl, Margaret Raffigan, the inmate of a convent orphanage who is charged with 'wilful disobedience'. Subsequently, the child is threatened with being sent to a reformatory.
The performance in Dingle, which is directed by Padraig Dennehy, follows on from performances earlier this week in courthouses in Kenmare, Tralee (where Zyber Productions staged more than 20 sell-out performances in recent years) and later tonight (Wednesday) in Killarney Courthouse.
The play will be staged this Friday in Dingle Courthouse at 8pm. For tickets contact 087-3586457 or 085-1947549.
