In a hard-fought contest featuring pupils from primary schools countywide, Eamonn Rohan of St Teresa's National School, Kilflynn was crowned champion following a competition filled with jitters, nerves, and even nausea!

The students' spelling abilities were well and truly tested on the day. However, teacher at Scoil Íosagáin Denise Wren said the talent was exceptional. "The standard was very high today, and it was great to see so many kids involved," she said.

Eamonn will now represent the Kingdom at the Provincial Spelling Bee competition, before the overall national final of the competition in June.

Eamonn's teacher, Ms Deirdre Daly, said "we're delighted for him - it's a wonderful achievement in a competition where the standard is so incredibly high."
