Mary Nolan (née Whelan) Glenalappa, Moyvane, pased away on January 21 following a brave and long battle with illness. A native of Sleaveen, Ballyduff Mary was predeceased by her parents Jeremiah and Hannah Whelan, her sister Eileen, and brothers Martin and John. She is survived by her husband Connie, brother Pat, brothers-in-law Billy and Con Frank Collins, sisters-in-law Violet and Moira, nieces and nephews. Mary was a quiet kind lady who certainly didn't upset anyone in the parish of Moyvane since she married Connie. Requiem Mass for Mary was held on Monday, January, 23 in The Church of the Assumption, Moyvane, followed by burial afterwards in Ahavoher Cemetery. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Kevin McNamara P.P. assisted by Canon O'Connor, Fr. O'Callaghan and Fr. McMahon. Lily Mae Relihan nee Kennelly of Glenalappa also died recently in St. Albans UK. Eamon Pelican passed away last week. From Moyvane South Eamon had recently been resident in Lystoll Lodge nursing home. He was predeceased by his sister Tess. May they rest in peace.

Tarbert Historical Society will resume its activities on Saturday. February 18. in the Bridewell. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society will take place at 7.30pm. This will be followed by a very interesting talk and a power point presentation by Jerry O' Connell titled, An illustrated personal perspective on the History of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Everybody welcome and there will be a cúpan tae afterwords.
The Poetical Works of Daniel O'Connor will be launched in the Community Centre, Tarbert on Saturday, February 18, at 7pm. The book contains one hundred and fifty-one poems penned by the author and over four hundred famous and funny quotes, by philosophers of ancient times.

Templeglantine National School is holding a Grandparents Day on Friday of this week, February 10. It will begin with mass in the church at 12 noon and afterwards there will be refreshments in Halla Inse Bhán. The final part of the occasion will be a visit to the school.
The main focus of attention on the Comhaltas scene on last weekend was the Munster Finals of Ceol an Gheimhridh held at Hazelwood College and hosted by CCÉ, Cluain Chréadhail. Our local craobh did very well winning a total of eight prizes in music, singing, storytelling and recitation. A meeting of the local Comhaltas craobh took place at Halla Inse Bhán on Wednesday last where a variety of topics relating to craobh activities over the coming months, were discussed. Half hour television programmes from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016 in Ennis are continuing on Friday evenings on RTE 1.
Friday next is World Day of Prayer for the Sick and a special mass for the occasion will be celebrated at 12 noon in our local church which will include a blessing of the sick. The daily mass schedule for this week is, Monday 10am, Tuesday to Thursday 11am with Fr Hurley, Friday at 12 noon, Saturday 6pm, Sunday 10.30am. The anniversary mass took place on Saturday evening last for Kate, Michael and Mary Mulcahy and also remembered in the mass was Joan Curran (née Heffernan) who died recently in New York. The anniversary mass for Pat Joe and Billy Browne was celebrated on Sunday. The month's Mind Mass for the late Kathleen Harnett, Devon Road and the anniversary mass for Willie Curtin, Devon Road will be celebrated on Saturday evening next. The anniversary mass for Patrick and Teresa Somers will take place on Sunday. Beannacht Dé ar anamacha na marbh.
