For the first time Team Ireland kickboxers are heading to WFM Dubai Open Kickboxing Championship on March 2th-4th. Mike O'Brien world president for WFM (world federation of elite martial arts) said this is history being made as it is the first time such an event will take place in Dubai. WFM is in over 120 countries at present and the aim is to help get kickboxing to the Olympics.
There are fighters from over 40 different countries - from Ireland fighters from Derry - Carlow- Galway - Dublin and Kerry. Local fighters Naomi O'Brien (Listowel) - Pat Nolan (Listowel) - Patrick Kelleher (Ballybunion) all from Golden Gloves Listowel will proudly represent their club in Dubai. Members from the Olympic committee will be there to watch this event and all going well in Dubai the next step is Italy on July 1st-2nd for WFM World Championships where we are confident we will bring home world champions. There are events later in the year in USA and Middle East for amateur and professional fights. WFM has grown so big in just under 2 years with championships held in all continents in the world already.

SOCCER STARS: Some of our senior soccer stars in the school are really making their mark. Adria Miravet, 5th year who plays in soccer with Listowel Celtic has been chosen to play with the Kerry Under 17 squad who open their campaign against Galway Utd on Sunday March 19th. We all wish Adria the very best of luck with the squad.
Aaron Kelly, Niall Downey and Callum Mc Sweeney local Ballybunion boys have been playing with Kerry Youths in the Inter-League. The boys have played very well. Continued success to these talented soccer stars in their future games.
A Public Meeting will be held in Ballybunion Community Centre on Thursday February 9that 8.00pm, with a view to setting up a Text Alert Group in the area.
Youth Café Raffle
The local Youth Café are holding a Valentines Raffle to raise funds. Tickets/Lines are priced at €2 each and are available from local shops and from Volunteers at the Café. There are some fabulous prizes on offer and the draw will take place in the Café on Saturday Feb 11th at 9pm. The committee of the café would like to extend a huge thank you to the local families and the social dancing group who have made very generous contributions to the Café recently and they wish to also thank the volunteers without whom the facility could not function.
The monthly meeting of the Men's Shed will be held at 11am on Tuesday 14th of February all members are requested to attend.
All music & step dancing classes have now resumed. Music on Thurs & Fri evenings. Step Dancing Sat morning. Adult music classes in the guitar, Banjo & Mandolin Monday nights in the Railway Bar.
Lisselton National School is now enrolling for the school year commencing September 2017. Details and enrolment forms are available by comtacting the school on 068-47240. St Valentine's Day coffee
The annual Listowel/North Kerry Multiple Sclerosis Society St Valentine's Day Coffee Morning takes place on Saturday next, February 11th at Tomáisín's, Lisselton. Time: 11.00am - 1.00pm. Come along and enjoy the chat and sample some homemade goodies. There are also some lovely raffle prizes on offer on the day. Your support will be much appreciated.

Text Alert was launched in the parish last week. Forms are available in Behan's and Ryan's, Lisselton Cross for anyone who is interested. Please complete the form and hand it along with €10 into Lisselton Post Office. This initiative is proving to be a successful tool in the fight against mobile criminal activity, which has become all too common in rural Ireland in recent times.
Aquarobic classes for beginners are commencing shortly in Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre. Monday night, 8.00pm - 8.45pm and Friday morning 9.45am - 10.30am. These classes are of huge benefit to anybody suffering from arthritis, etc. For more info please contact Martina on 087 7973688.
Items being sought for the 2017 edition include articles on any subject of your choice, all competition entries, Creative Writing and Photography (all levels) Photos of family occasions eg, Christenings, Communions, Confirmations, Debs, Birthdays, Weddings, Retirements, etc. If anybody has photos of Confirmations from Lisselton School 1937- 42, the committee are very anxious to document them. There are a few copies of the 2016 edition still available in outlets in North Kerry.
The branch committee meeting takes place on Friday next, February 10th at 8.30 pm in Lisselton National School. The branch annual Set-dancing competition will take place Saturday week, February 18th in Tomáisín's Hall, Lisselton commencing at 7pm. The annual church-gate collection will be taken up at all masses on the weekend February 25th/26th. The annual concert is scheduled for Friday, March 10th in Tomáisín's Hall. The Munster final of Ceol An Gheimhridh took place in Hazelwood College Drumcollogher, Co Limerick on Sunday last, February 5th. Well done to all the branch members who took part. There where six Munster medals won on the day.Congratulation the Kieran Mackessy on winning the Munster final in the Reed U13 and Dylan Quinn who won the string U13. The following quartet, Caoimhe Laide, Shane Madden, Ruby Falvey, Dylan Quinn came 2nd in their competition.

Community Games Art and Handwriting competition takes place on Sunday next, February 12th at Lisselton School. Time: 1.00pm - 3.00pm. This is open to both boys and girls. Art: U8/U10s can choose any Community Games activity. U10/12/14/16 can choose one of the following titles: Duathlon, Badminton, Futsal, Cycling on Grass, Project, Swimming, Culture Corner, Handwriting, One Wall Handball, Skittles. Please note that the choices for the County competitions will be reduced to four. Handwriting - U10/12s only. The competitor must be 6 or over on July 31st 2017. Please bring your own pencils, colours, etc on the day. Paper will be provided. The artwork can be a drawing, painting, cartoon or collage.

Sliabh a' Mhadra N.S. is having a Clothes Recycling Drive on Thursday 16th February. Please donate all your old clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, Bed linen, towels and curtains. These bags of clothing can be placed in the school bicycle shelter on the evening of February 15th or from early morning to 10.00am on Thursday, February 16th.

The annual Ramblers Golf Society Social will be held in Lowes Bar on Saturday night February 18th. Tickets can be booked from John Mike O'Connor 087-2203826. Tickets are great value at €20. Music by the excellent N21 on the night. A night not to be missed by golfers and non golfers. Membership of €30 for the season ahead is now due and members are asked to try to have it paid before the first outing. Our first outing is on March 11th at Tralee Golf Club. Our Annual Field Development fundraising draw will take place on Friday night February 17th. This year's draw will be held at the White Sands Hotel Ballyheigue. This is the Coursing Club's only fundraiser for the year and all monies are reinvested into continually improving our facilities. Club tickets are available from all club members at a cost of €5.00 with a total prizefund of over €1,000.
