Corca Dhuibhne in winning form
CORCA DHUIBHNE competitors are back with a bagful of trophies after a strong showing at the Oireachtas showcase of traditional arts in Letterkenny
The outstanding talents of Máirtín and Prionnsias Ó Cáthsaigh from Lios Póil earned them first place in 12-15 musical dialogue Lúibíní competition. Antaine Ó Séaghdha from Baile an Fheirtéaraigh won the U-12 Scéalaíocht competition while Aoife Ní Ghrifín and Ellen Nic Giolla Geimhridh from Daingean Uí Chúis won the 12-15 years Agallamh Beirte competition.
A veteran of An t-Oireachtas, Páidí Mharthain MacGearailt did his parish proud by coming in second place nationally in Corn Cuimhneacháin Chiaráin Uí Chon Ceanainn.
"Páidí did very well among a very strong field of competitors," said former Uachtarán of an tOireachtas Mícheál de Mórdha, who travelled to Donegal with the Corca Dhuibhne contingent.
"He came in second place in the men's category of Corn Cuimhneacháin Chiaráin Uí Chon Ceanainn and what's great about is that it guarantees his eligibility for competing in the premium Oireachtas sean-nós singing competition, Comórtas Chorn Uí Riada, in Killarney next year for Oireachtas 2013."
"Páidí is a very, very popular sean-nós competitor and he is retained by Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne for teaching sean nós singing to pupils in the Dingle Peninsula Gaeltacht primary schools," he added.
The memory of Dún Chaoin teacher Áine Ní Shé-Uí Dhugáin, who sadly passed away in March 2011, was also celebrated at An tOireachtas as a trophy – Corn Cuimhneacháin Aine Ní Shé-Uí Dhúgáin - sponsored by her peers in Cumann Muinteoirí Eireann Chorca Dhuibhne was presented in her honour to the winners of the Luibiní Fé-12 musical dialogue competition.
Áine's brother, Pádraig Ó Sé of Raidió na Gaeltachta, made the journey to Donegal to make the presentation.
