ONE of the longest-running race supporters' clubs have a load of goodies lined up for members ahead of the famous race meeting in its home town later this month.
The Listowel Races Supporters' Club is one of the oldest in the country, and its experience affords its members the quintessential racing experience each year. Concessions, daily sweeps and competitions and the use of its always-comfortable rooms on the race course - it's small wonder most self-respecting Listowel Race fans are signing up.
"I think what people love most about it, apart from the concessions available on joining, are the facilities we have on the racecourse," PRO and racing commentator Jerry Hannon explained.
"Our clubroom is a bit of a haven for our members. It's situated behind the lower and middle stands and I think people love the fact you just don't get crowd rushes in it! It's a very leisurely atmosphere, with a full bar and Tote facilities," Jerry said. It's also got widescreen TVs, complimentary teas and coffees and light snacks for members and their guests.
Joining the club costs €250, but for that price the member gets the following:
12 passes valued at up to €240; full use of the clubroom; participation in the daily sweeps and competitions which have a prize-fund worth more than €7,500 and a leading racing personality on hand to mark members' cards each day before racing. The club also sponsor two valuable races during the week - the Lartigue Hurdle on Tuesday and the famous Slán Abhaile Flat Race at the week's end.
