Christmas Day Charity Mile funds presented

At the presentation of Christmas Morning Charity Mile cheques were Denis McSweeney, manager An Riocht presenting a cheque to Seán Hanley, Oileán Beó; Bill Costello, An Riocht with a cheque for GOAL; Denis Brosnan presenting a cheque to Theresa Looney on the Irish Kidney Association with Margaret Enright and Mary Nelligan, Oileán Beó.

THE take from the Christmas Day Charity Mile was presented on Thursday morning on the very track on which it was raised.

Three cheques for €1,000 each were presented to: Oilean Beo - St. John of God, Castleisland; GOAL Philippines Disaster Fund and the Patient Support wing of the Irish Kidney Association.

An Riocht issued the annual invitation to leisure walkers to join them for the event on Christmas morning.

While the numbers taking part held up well, the size of the donation had shrunk with the times we live in.

Even so the organisers were delighted with a final count of €2,800.

All-in-all it was a great two-hours of work on behalf of a trio of worthy organisations - a point made by the recipients of the funds in the course of their words of appreciation and thanks to the organisers and contributors at the presentations on Thursday morning.
