The swimmers at Cnuicin Pier, who completed this year’s Christmas Day swim.

THE Portmagee Christmas Day swim was blessed with the best day of the holiday season as 65 swimmers took to the water at 10am at Knockeen (Cnuicin) Pier, the youngest swimmer being eight-year-old Rionn O'Shea from Valentia who has done the swim every year.

Tommy Gilligan was MC for the event and he did a countdown for the swimmers and encouraged everyone who braved the water. There was also a large crowd of spectators and a great atmosphere. Locals were given the opportunity to meet up with friends and neighbours over a hot beverage afterwards.

The organisers extend a big thank you to all who helped out with stewarding, giving out the refreshments and to Mike and Robert for taking pictures.

Also, thanks to the committee of the boat shed, to Kieran Murphy for the use of his sound system, John Quirke, Paudie O'Shea and Mike Keating who cleared the area and to anyone else that helped out in any way.

A grand total of €6,500 was raised and the proceeds will go to Cahirsiveen Community Hospice Care.

A big thank you to the swimmers and non swimmers who made a big effort to raise this money and to all who gave so generously.
