Big night for neighbours and friends
RESIDENTS both past and present of one of Killarney's longest established housing estates came together over the weekend to share memories and also to make some brand new ones.
The Ardshanavooly Gathering took place on Saturday night in the Killarney Avenue Hotel attracting up to 200 neighbours and friends, including some well known musicians who call the estate home.
The event was organised by Geraldine Fleming who lived in Germany for 22 years before returning to her native Killarney in recent years.
"I remember when I got back I met up with a few of the girls I grew up with in Ardshanavooly and that really sparked the idea of doing something bigger. It took a while but I started organising the event in October and it took off from there," Geraldine said.
"It was a chance for old friends to meet up but also for some of the older residents to get out with their neighbours," she added.
The special Gathering event was also used as an opportunity to raise money for the Oncology Ward at Kerry General Hospital and those present generously donated a massive €1,400 to the cause.
