The local community and beyond was cast into a shadow of shock and sadness as the upsetting news filtered through on Thursday last September 6th of the passing of the late Ann Cussen R.I.P. (Nee Mangan) of Broadford, Co. Limerick and formally of Old School Road, Ballylongford. Ann who had bravely fought a serious illness passed away in the loving and tender care of her family at her Broadford home. The third child born of a family of four, two girls and two boys to Eddie and Mary B she enjoyed her childhood in the local community having received her primary education just across the road from her family home, receiving the sacraments at the local church and continuing with her second level education at Tarbert Comprehensive School. Coming into her adult life Ann moved from the area and on meeting her husband settled in Broadford where they lived happily as a family enjoying the birth of a son and a daughter. Unfortunately her health took a drastic turn just a short time ago, being diagnosed with a serious illness which she fought very bravely, but sadly on Thursday last Ann's life journey was brought to an end as the good Lord called her home, which has resulted and created a huge void in the lives of her heartbroken family. To her beloved husband, son, daughter, heartbroken parents Eddie and Mary B of old School Road, brothers Kevin & Family Sand Quay, Bridge Street, Edward and Family New York, sister Marie and Family Mountcoal , brother in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, family relatives and large circle of friends we offer our deepest sympathies. On Monday September 3rd the sad news filtered through from England on the passing of the late Sean Callaghan (R.I.P.) of Brighton and formally of Callaghan's Cross Lislaughtin. Sean like so many of his generation was forced to leave these shores in the late 50's in search of a better life in England where he settled with the love of his life the late Kathleen R.I.P. (formally Enright) of Lenamore. The family was complete with the arrival of two sons and eventhough exiled in England they never forgot home making regular visits on Holidays or for family occasions. Sadly Kathleen passed away just a few short years ago creating a huge void in the lives of the family. Unfortunately as time passed by Sean's health took a turn, and on Sunday evening September 2nd last his life's journey sadly ended, to his grieving sons, sister Lilly at Callaghan's Cross, brothers Sean (Tralee) and Joseph (England) sister in law Bridie (Rusheen) we extend our deepest sympathies. The Sad news also emerged on Monday of the death of Rev. Fr Michael Maher C.C. who was the past curate of Asdee/Ballylongford Parish. Aged 86 Fr Michael was a very active and fit man all of his life and despite the weather always went to Beale strand on a daily basis for a swim. A native of Smearla Bridge in the parish of Duagh Fr Michael had been curate in Asdee/Ballylongford for over 8 years where he was very much respected and liked; he had a great sense of warmth and friendliness and was always very helpful in his dealings with everybody whether it be a joyous or sad occasion. He liked to chat and mingle with both young and old and he was always well briefed on local and national affairs. He served in the parish with Fr Philip O' Connell P.P. and they were a very professional and courteous in their duties, indeed while Fr Philip was recovering from an accident some years back it was Fr Maher that kept everything going at both sides of the parish despite he being in his late 70s at the time. To his all Family Relatives and Friends we extend our deepest sympathies. Fr Mahers requiem mass will take place at St Michael's Church Ballylongford today (Wednesday( at 12noon with burial afterwards in the church grounds. Ar dheis dea go raibh a hAinimi dhilis.
