The community was saddened at the news of the death of Ivor (Sam) Bennet of Tullahinell South which took place during the week.
Sam as he was affectionately known to family and friends was native of Northhampton in the U K and met his wife Chrissie (nee Gleeson) in the U K and they went on to have 4 children
After Sam's retirement from work the family moved back to Asdee and built a new house in Tullahinell where they were very happy and contented.
Sam will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him.
Big crowds turned out for the removal of his remains from Lynch's Funeral Home in Ballylongford to St Mary's Church.
A large congreagatrion attended the funeral Mass at St Mary's Church where the celebrant was Fr. Jospeh Tarrant C C who was assisted by Fr. Padraig Kennelly P. P.
After the ceremony the cortege proceeded to Ballylonfod where internment took place to Lislaughtan Cemetery.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Chrissie, son John, daughters, Susan, Bridget and Helen and all other family members and relatives.
Asdee Rovers and Killorglin served up a very exciting game to start the new season in Denny Premier B at a sundrenched Craughdarrig Park in Asdee.
Asdee settled the better and got a great boost when Graham Hannon scored after a wicked deflection on nine minutes. Asdee dominated the first twenty minutes but had to withstand a lot of Killorglin pressure and were lucky to still be ahead at the break. The second half saw much more in the line of chances with John Griffin very unlucky for Asdee as his shot came back off the post with the Killorglin Keeper well beaten on fifty minutes.
Killorglin kept plugging away and a great cross by Edwin Kelliher was missed at the back post by Gerry O Brien when all in the ground expected it to be a goal.Asdee could not fashion a second goal despite Maurice O Halloran having a ball taken off the line and Mark Culloty missing a great chance following a flowing move. With Sean Costelloe pulling the strings in midfield Killorglin were still in the game as it entered the final stages and they were rewarded on eighty five minutes when a free kick was floated into the Asdee box and keeper Tom Quinn caught the ball in the air bit lost it when he fell on the ground allowing Edwin Kelliher a tap in goal which was just reward for their persistence, However there was time for the same thing to happen to the Killorglin keeper and up from the back came Asdee center half Jeremiah Tydings to slot the winner for Asdee.
